The Black Finish – More Like Charcoal, and That’s a Good Thing
If you’re picturing a shiny, fingerprint-magnet jet black like the iPhone 7 days, relax. This “Black” is really a deep, muted charcoal with a colour-infused matte glass back. It feels soft and almost velvety in the hand, and the best part? It barely shows smudges. The aluminium frame has a slight texture too, so the phone feels less slippery than my old glossy-backed 11. Apple also finally contoured the edges, so when you hold it, it doesn’t dig into your palm like some of the previous squared-off designs. If you’re coming from an iPhone 12 or older, the jump feels massive — camera, screen brightness, battery, and that USB-C convenience. For iPhone 13 users, it’s a nice upgrade but not urgent unless you really want the camera improvements and Dynamic Island.
